Scratch Programming and Spreadsheets for Coordinate Geometry

This PD introduces digital platforms such as spreadsheets and Scratch to reinforce math concepts via visualization and games. The session provides hands-on experience with Scratch programming concepts towards game development, and the usage of spreadsheets for visualization. The PD touches upon the math topics of Cartesian plane, classification and hierarchy of 2D shapes and real-world problems involving coordinates, two-dimensional shapes, associated mensuration, length and distance measurement and units and fraction operations.

Teachers leave the PD with the required Scratch programming and spreadsheet manipulation skills, tools, pedagogy and classroom management tools required to integrate coding and spreadsheets in their coordinate geometry classes to further up student engagement in Math.

Here is what the Teachers are saying

  • Sean N

    Art Teacher, St Albans

“As someone who was new to Scratch, Learn2code.Live's training was a great introduction. Within a few days I no longer felt intimidated by programming and was ready to jump into more complicated projects. I was able to relate to coding and appreciate how it applied to my classes.”
  • Garry C

Middle School Math Instructional Coach, FPCS

"Learn2Code.Live hosted one of the best PD’s I’ve attended as an educator. The Python PD with Math Integration for grades 6 – 8 was hands-on and immediately gave me ways to differentiate math instruction and keep students engaged while learning a new skill and reinforcing math concepts. I was able to see the alignment of how the process of coding uses some of the same rules that apply in solving mathematical problems. This professional development was great because it equipped a math teacher with a new skill that can be taught to children who live in underserved populations which adversely could change the trajectories of their lives. I would attend this PD every chance that I could get. Dr. Martin was a phenomenal presenter and his math background allowed for us to have fruitful conversations on how to integrate coding into my students' math learning."
  • Maria Marsicano

Math teacher, WVDE @ Academy Programs

“The live online class from learn2code was different from any other online class I have taken. Having the instructor present while you are doing the lesson allows for immediate feedback and troubleshooting. The instructor was extremely patient with all levels of learners. The content was not too easy, and not too difficult so any level of user could benefit from these classes.”
